All the news reports call this ding dong ditch but the man said the kids were trying to knock in his door so i don't think calling this a "ding ding ditch" prank is accurate
Edit: since some of you believe everything you read- We don't know if they were doing classic ding dong ditch or this "repeated attempt of trying to kick in a door challenge" https://youtu.be/upfsoPT8yjE or https://youtu.be/v9y3xQeeRrU . Would you call that "ding dong ditch" if that is what happened here? I wouldn't.
Instead of calling it "ding dong ditch" we could call it "shooting a child in the back while they're running away from you."
I'm struggling to conceive why you're implying shooting a kid in the back while they're running away from you can be justified in some way. Whatever threat may or may not have existed was clearly over when the children started running away.
That certainly would be a more accurate description of the known facts
He's not trying to justify the shooting, only saying it may not have played out as we're imagining.
He is getting charged with a crime, so the law agrees with you here.
It also said the kid had done that to other homes that night, but they didn't mention trying to kick in the door. To me, it sounds like he is trying to cover his ass by making him sound like a threat with the hopes of not getting sentenced to jail or possibly getting a lighter sentence.
Whatever charge he's found guilty of, this is the exact type of person Trump likes to pardon.
LOL you just took him as his word. You believe someone who is willing to shoot a child in the back. That's on you, not us.
No, i actually have read 4 different reports on this and i referred to this article as him saying that. But in other articles there were inconsistencies in how they described ding dong ditch that made it curious to me. So i didn't just take his word for it.
I don't condone shooting children, least of all the the back. All i want is accurate reporting
From this article it seems to indicate he exited his house, fired at the fleeing kids striking one in the back, and fired at an unrelated car mistaking it to be involved. Assuming that's true, with all that, even if they were trying to kick in the door and he ran out and started blasting as they retreated, this doesn't meet the legal standard for self defense in Texas (nor any other state in the US for that matter.)
He likely would have had a case were they actively attempting to breach and he fired through the door, but the moment they retreated he became the aggressor and he re-engaged by following them and firing down the street, then shot at an unrelated third party which he's also gonna do time for.
Dude is absolutely cooked.
Changes with the times, used to be Nicky Nicky nine doors, or knock knock ginger. Door bells didn’t exist at some point, and this prank predates those.
You misunderstand. I'm not saying this is just a change of name. I'm saying that this could be a different thing altogether. When i was doing this in the 80s no one was throwing their whole ass body against the door repeatedly, or trying to kick the door in. We don't know what was happening here. Maybe it was the same old prank. Maybe it was something stupider. No one deserved to die but i do think reporting on the facts is important and calling it ding dong ditch underplays it if something else was going on
Your use of the word factor is interesting. Is it a fact or is it the claim of a man who shot a child in the back. Cuz I wouldn't take that as fact.
I never said his claim was a fact. I just want accurate reporting which would mean clearly defining what the kids were doing that led to this reaction
The kid was eleven... Even if he was kicking as hard as he could. He isn't damaging the door much less making it sound like he could possibly get in.
Just stop with your bullshit
K
I used to play this as a kid with a group of friends.
One night; one of the houses we knocked at had the door barely latched. When we knocked on it, it swung open as if we'd kicked it in, but i was just an aggressive knock.
Not in America, so the guy just chased us down the road for a bit instead of opening fire, until he ran out of energy and we lost him.
