I'm really surprised every screen gets a whole computer. Why can't there be one feeding data to every screen? Seems like a massive waste.

I guess it's because of cheap modularity. Might be cheaper to make little modules that can be quickly replaced to repair. One little computer that has just enough power to run a single screen may be cheaper than a beefier computer to run multiple screens.

No single point of failure. Just toss a new Raspberry Pi in there and good to go.
