How to deal with the "Extreme difficulty"? (lemmy.wtf)

I played the Extreme difficulty for the first time today and oh boy was I not ready for it.

The jump in difficulty was rather extreme and I’m mostly wondering how I deal with the bugs coming up from under the ground?

Also, the red bugs are hard to kill, because my bullets are not strong enough. Which weapon do you recommend?

Having proper teamwork is the only time I've ever completed missions above the "Hard" difficulty. If you are all spread out and not watching each others' back, you're pretty much fucked.
