"As revolutionaries, we don't have the right to say that we're tired of explaining. We must never stop explaining. We also know that when the people understand, they cannot but follow us. In any case, we, the people, have no enemies when it comes to peoples. Our only enemies are the imperialist regimes and organizations." Thomas Sankara, 1985

Liberals fucking suck. Revolution over reform. No compromise with capitalism!
However, not all non-MLs or non-vanguard communists are pointless, necessarily. Communism can be achieved without the vanguard with a dictatorship of the proletariat. Mass strike has shown to be successful in moving towards communism. For the Spartacus League, the only thing stopping the mass strike from complete success is the paramilitaries of early 1920s and late 1910s Germany. Paramilitary force in developed nations doesn't exist nearly enough, and a proletarian democracy could very well be achieved by a mass strike and revolution, especially in smaller cities with less defense. Remember, society is upheld by the proletarians, so the same should apply to revolution as opposed to a concentrated vanguard party.
