Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

People who dismiss empathy, can't reasonably expect it in return.

[–] HopFlop@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 5 days ago

Nobody (?) is expecting everyone to have empathy with him, but not empathizing with someone and enjoying their murder are two different things.

Celebrating his death is a disgrace to democracy and the human dignity. And that doesnt make a person much better than him.

Why expect empathy to be transactional?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 6 days ago

It's not transactional. For it to be transactional, it has to have a value for both sides. Empathy holds no value for MAGAs, so they shouldn't care if they receive it or not. In fact, they should even be offended at the offer of Empathy, sort of like how Atheists get irritated when asked to offer Thoughts & Prayers for school shootings.

"I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage."

In Kirk's own words.

Conveniently left out the following two sentences where he states that he just prefers the term "sympathy" over "empathy" and dislikes the latter because of a miniscule detail in its origin

Cool. Now tell us the "context" for these gems:

[–] HopFlop@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 days ago
  1. Those are just more quotes without context
  2. I still dont see how the would prove your point

(I would like to note that I don't agree at all with Kirk's opinions just so that doesn't get mixed up)

So why listen to him and hold back empathy? It doesn't mean to love him or to support him, just to feel for him.

[–] Amuletta@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

But I don't feel anything for him. He was a vile piece of trash.

Empathy is generally described as the ability to perceive another person's perspective, to understand, feel, and possibly share and respond to their experience.

Empathy doesn't mean that you have emotions but that you understand his.
