It seems to be specific capitalist first. Not to defend "billionaires" but what's going on is a bit of inter class conflict. I feel like the tarrifs are (1) an attack on the working class. We are the ones that actually pay them. And (2) are a means of giving a loyalty pledge to the the new administration. We'll let you not pay the tarrifs if you agree.

If you know about the history of Nazi Germany it's pretty similar. The petty bourgeois class (small business owners) were the ones that supported the rise of fascism within the electoral system; And they were the ones quickly ignored and discarded in favor of the concentration of capital.

In short. The small business is getting fucked, the middle is getting eaten or bought out, and those most loyal to the new administration are given rewards.

It's the transition from neoliberalism to fascism. And the politicians are all trying to adjust to this change within the ruling class to get their donations and narratives. It's why the Democratic party is so confused right now.
