THE POLICE PROBLEM
The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.
99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.
When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.
When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."
When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.
Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.
The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.
All this is a path to a police state.
In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.
Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.
That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

④ Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

We don't use that word anymore.
Can you tell us which it was?
I tried and got censored 🙄 mod censorship
It was a slur that derives from a word meaning "slow".
I figured.
While we're on the subject, I'd like to take to opportunity to again bring up that dot ml's word filter will remove it even when posting in French.
I do because I'm not a snowflake.
"I was abused and called that in school!"
Yeah, along with 100% of the other kids. It's an elementary school insult.
True we normally base all of our social norms on what happens at elementary recess.
What word?? I need a list of words to not say
Oof, not a great look for Lemmy if we now have lists of banned words.
Obviously if someone is being abusive and a dick, that's reason to ban or temp ban them. But if there are straight up dumb word filters that we need to walk on eggshells on to appease a specific moderators sensitivities, well, how Reddit of them.
George Carlin gave us 7 dirty words that cant be said on TV
The fact there are WORDS that cant be used in general is we todd did, the mods already removed the comment stating said word.
re·tard verb past tense: retarded; past participle: retarded /rəˈtärd/
Dont say this word, mods will removed because they are a bunch of Todds
Funny thing. My Diagnosis is F70.8, and I can never tell anyone about it for this reason.
You can define slurs all you want but it’s still a slur.
And it really isnt a slur, it is an actual word, people take offense because they dont want to be called slow
So maybe learn the language you say you speak
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/retard
Language is fluid and it changes. That word has become a slur because fuck nuts like yourself continue to use it as such.
Humbug
And sometimes we need stronger language to potray our rage
And slurs are not stronger language. They just alienate marginalized groups and make people on the left think you are a shit head.
Is a word really worse than the actions taken by ICE that has lead to multiple deaths and other various injuries plus uprooting famlies because the leader of said country is a fascist fuck? Please, stop being slow in the head
Yes, the language we use is important, regardless of who is in charge.
What a Todd take that is
Actions speak louder than talk...
More accurately they took issue with how you expressed that sentiment. We're all thinking the same thing about ICE.
Hey an answer instead of down votes, thats fucking we todd did
And the answer was removed by mods....?
The answer read:
It was removed by mods with the description
Because defunct_punk is wrong to suggest that the mods "don't agree". It's just about avoiding the use of slurs.
Let's put it this way: how would you feel about it if the slur being used began with N and derived from a Latin word for "black", or if it began with F and derived from a word for a bundle of sticks?
Read my last 3 words fast lol
