Even if she had never crossed paths with Trump and Maxwell, her story is still heartbreaking. The kind of terrible, awful abuses she faced in her life by the time she was 16 shouldn't be happening in our society, full stop. The kind of shit that makes girls extra fragile and vulnerable by the time that they are 16, which is dangerous for a whole host of reasons besides sexual predators. Obviously the predator problem is huge, and I want to see every one of these fuckers dead and buried 50 feet under the ground. But one wonders how much of this we would mitigate if we just did better by little girls so that they are very strong and capable by the time they are 16, rather than being emotionally shattered by a society that stops caring about your wellbeing the moment you are born.

If she'd been raised in a good home she wouldn't have done these things. The more vulnerable someone is, the more suggestible; and the more they've been abused, the more likely it is to happen. Predators use coercive control to entrap people, and it changes how people think. She's guilty of terrible crimes, but as a child, she was horribly treated.
