From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Sorry, what is the relevance here?
Android also uses a Linux kernel.
I'm not following. Are you suggesting the subject of android doesn't belong in this instance of Linux on Lemmy?
I'm saying that Android phones and the partly proprietary Jolla phone are basically equivalent.
Sir.... Unless you are on gnu herd or on 100% open hardware, you are also using proprietary drivers and software.
As I said, not all Linux is oss.
In a discussion about the OS there's possibly some room for that. But this thread is about a phone. c/degoogle might be a better location.
