General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
Yeah, the problem is the people being abused on the internet, not the people doing the abusing. They just need to not be on the internet, so they won't get abused! Obviously they should be wearing less revealing clothes too. You're so smart.
In an ideal world it would be great if we could say to people "hey, maybe you shouldn't be a dick to people on the Internet" but that's the same as trying to say "maybe you shouldn't steal from people" instead of buying a burglar alarm.
Yeah we should just give up and accept societal issues instead of trying to address them. All the smarties are out today.
Did I say that? You can never prevent it completely, so you still need to protect people as well as educating people.
Maybe you should read the entire section of the article which details the percentages of those who have reported levels of different types of abuse online, since you seemed to have missed it.
