Funtions I look for:

Select image to edit
Paste images on top of other images
Doodle (customazible size and color)
Insert text and variety of fonts

That's essentially the opposite path Photoshop took and that's considered good for both. Anyway can attest, krita works great for everything I've every used Photoshop for.
