Just sounds like the air mattress leaks
I've definitely had air mattresses that deflate without leaks. I imagine it's a "feature" of cheaper beds that use less air-tight material.
Could be the material stretching out, making it seem like air was escaping when in fact it was not; the space itself was getting larger.
Hmm... honestly, could be. If I ever sleep on an air mattress again, I might have to test this theory.
Or the air was getting "smaller" as it cooled at night
