Yeah there was a lot of racism, at least in the beginning. e.g.
Wow I thought Jerry dressed up in blackface was the shocking part, then it showed the actual islanders… they didnt even look human 😨

That’s just it, I think the show creators saw those people as “sub-humans” or whatever. Truly disgusting.
