This is something I never really understood in itself or why it's important in the first place. Modern day examples would definitely help.

Can somebody help me out?

Extreme short version: commodity fetishism is what drives abusive boomers to order food from underpaid and overworked employees: the food is just the justification, the actual value of the spent money is feeling like a petty king for a few minutes.
