When you need an excuse there's always a holiday
Genghis Khan day does sound kind of awesome
Wait. Wantonly raping, pillaging, and burning strangers' homes to the ground is your idea of awesome? 🥹
Too soon? It's been about 1000 years. It happened a long time ago in the past, so now it's interesting... Lots of people find empire building interesting, especially when it's far enough in the past that the emotions have simmered down
1 in 200 people is a direct descent of Genghis Khan. Maybe it's just a family reunion day?
It also matters what you're building an empire on top of. Is it barren, full of warlike tribes, or peaceful people? Even after 1000 years or even after sixty-five million years, the question "was it worth it" (or "was it deserved", sometimes the same question) will always be valid to ask.
It probably has more to do with the fact he has the most descendants today. People over there really like their heritage.
