World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

just as? how many pediatric hospitals have the other side deliberately bombed?
Certainly not for the lack of trying. It's just that the iron dome is protecting those hospitals on Israel's side. It shoots down dozens if not hundreds of rockets shot by Hamas daily, some sources say 7000+ since October 7th, which are aimed at who knows what kind of targets.
Just because Israel is a (, not the,) bad guy in this war doesn't mean Hamas are any less evil.
I’m not trying to say Hamas is not evil, but equating the terrorist attacks on October 7th with IDF’s intentional bombing of hospitals, schools, killing 4000 children doesn’t, and shouldn’t be sound mathemathics in my mind. If we do, we are not far from the people who let the Holocaust happen.
Can we please not use math to argue who is allowed to murder how many innocents on either side? There is no "but" here, every innocent life taken in this conflict is one too much, on both sides. This conflict has evil, different brand of evil, and innocents caught in the middle between.
Well that's assuming you're taking Hamas' numbers at face value, the same group that claimed a misfired rocket that couldn't have killed more than ten people killed "500."
So yeah, if you're just dumb enough to believe a terrorist group has that accurate of census data, that's on you.
Are you claiming that no one has died in Gaza?
Then you should be for a ceasefire.
At least 1 5 times already since the war started. Look up Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.
Then you should be for a ceasefire.
No. Hamas needs to be stopped, so no more rockets are fired at Israel. A ceasefire means more rockets will be fired at Israel in a little bit, just like every ceasefire.
For the hostages, right?
well how many music festivals did the Israelis ride into indiscriminately killing civilians? we could do this all day, enough with your blatant attempt to paint one side as saints while the other is evil.
both of them are the devil and innocent civilians on BOTH sides are paying the price for the bloodthirsty maniacs on BOTH sides
I think most people would not equate hospitals with music festivals. I hope you don’t either.
They can’t even have festivals when they live in an apartheid regime, under an open-air prison controlled by the other party. Equating this as an equal conflict is unfair and an unjust representation of reality.
ive seen some shit takes but, wow
Very good argument my man. A hospital contains newborns, sick and injured people, in addition to medical staff who provides care for these people. If you think that is the same as a music festival, I would maybe make a visit to both types of establishments if you need to understand.
civilians who had no part of this numbnuts. the fact you think some deserved it and some didn't is pretty disgusting and says a lot about the kind of peice of shit that has opinions like yours
Then you should advocate for humanitarian aid.
Religion is the real devil, that's the root of this bullshit. Not that people haven't committed atrocities for other reasons, but religious fundamentalism is the most common source of this kind of horror and that will exist wherever religious adherents have the numbers to obtain political sway.
Then you should be for a ceasefire.
I am?
I don’t know, are you?
