So here’s my dilemma…

I recently got into networking due to this sub and my primary goal was to have a managed switch & a few APs for separate tasks around the house while planning to make my home fully smart home’d. I found out the way that I was doing things currently seems to be a big mess which I’ll make a separate post seeing if maybe I can get some help organizing it before I consider making the switch over to either ubiquiti / TP Link.

I would like some community input if I should just fully sell off my Mikrotik switch & asus routers and stick to one branded product franchise. I really wanted to either build or buy a PFSense router / OPNsense system but most of the tutorials I see seem to be very complex for me to start off with.

What I currently have so far:

• Mikrotik Managed Gigabit Switch (will update the model number here later)

• ASUS AC-5300 Router w/ Merlin Flashed to it

• D-Link Fast Ethernet Unmanaged Switch (16-Ports, was a bit of a regrettable purchase of mine…)

• A Proxmox 4U server with an Intel Pro 1000 quad NIC installed (found from a different retired server I found)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I love my omada setup. Except the router. It supports ipv6 but not in its firewall, for instance. Switch and APs are great.
