We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.
3. No excessive self-promotion
Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.
This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.
We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.
5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW
Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.
No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.
6. No linking to piracy
Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.
We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

The only people on the planet who give a shit about this within the provided context of gaming are Sony fanboys.
If people actually gave a shit about megacorporation problems and the FTC, they would be pissed the FTC took this bullshit case as an excuse to pretend to do things while Walmart and Amazon destroy every grocery chain and many other goods markets.
Within the context of gaming, Activision might be one of the 3 gaming companies worse than Microsoft. Microsoft owning them might actually improve their products and reduce their microtransactions.
I don't have a current PlayStation or Xbox. I give a shit about this. Because frankly you're just plain wrong. Two things can be wrong and deserve to be addressed. Just because people are upset about one doesn't mean they aren't upset about the other. The FTC should be tackling both. But they are purposefully hobbled by the opposition.
What unique features of Activision are you worried about Microsoft failing to maintain that feels like a valid part of the megacorporations are burning the world to death conversation?
I am interested in what you think Microsoft is going to do to Activision that will be so horrible.
There are no unique features of Activision. Microsoft will not fail to maintain any of them. And that is the problem.
Quite honestly fuck Activision. I don't give one flying fuck about Activision. Microsoft really can't do any worse than Activision. That's a problem is they can't really do much better either. And it overall reduces choice which is a bigger issue.
The fact that almost all publishing and IP are largely controlled by four or five major groups is bad for consumers, and consumer choice. Tencent, Embracer, Microsoft, and Sony aren't creative altruistic companies. Most if not all of them are realistically just parasites. Who are more of a burden to the studios under them than they are a help. Who through leveraging stolen money and IP or simple strong arm tactics have managed to acquire all this power and influence unduly. I'm especially looking at Microsoft here. Because let me be extra explicit here. Modern Activision is absolutely horrible. It wasn't always that way though. Their name actually used to be a bit of a draw as a publisher or developer. But as they grew unnaturally this way the things got worse as they do with any company that grows unnaturally that way. However, Microsoft was never better. This is who Microsoft was from day one. And you can always count on Microsoft to do the wrong thing in the end. So moving from activation to Microsoft will not ultimately be a good thing.
What choices were eliminated? Are you upset the rapist CEO isn't going to be providing enough avenues for other rapists to publish their games or so etching? Do you think a different set of the 20 billionaires who dictate all of this are now going to dictate it differently?
And again, video games is the market that concerns you for this topic? Again, not the fucking groceries or news media? Fuckimg video games?
This is exactly my point. It's all bad faith bullshit from Sony fanboys.

Oh yeah that's kind of the whole topic was the video game market etc. And the FTC Microsoft case. If you want to talk about the rape allegations and all that. Then you need to bring that up. Because that's a whole other can of worms. Where even now you're just creating straw man arguments.
And talk about bad faith bullshit. I'm not a Sony fanboy The last PlayStation I own was a PlayStation 2 and 2001. The last Nintendo I owned was a GameCube in 2003 the last Xbox I owned was never. You don't get much more bad faith than yourself.
And your last few questions are rhetorical, self answering if you will. If I don't want any business with Microsoft. Microsoft owning everyone makes it impossible for me to not do business with Microsoft. It is by definition a bad thing. Indie developers are fine. But again companies like Microsoft Sony etc put up a lot of barriers for many of them. So I have no love for Microsoft Sony etc again. Any more questions? Or at least genuine ones?
Actually, the topic was how fucking stupid the people are who pretend like the Microsoft Activision acquisition was on the radar of megacorporate monopoly problems.

The reason I personally don’t want this as someone who does not own a PlayStation or a Nintendo console and likely never will is this leads to a future where Microsoft builds up enough IP where suddenly everything is locked into Microsoft game pass and their own store and windows that anyone wanting to use a different platform may as well just fuck off.
It’s the first step on the road to anti consumer practices that Microsoft has historically always done.
I've owned every Xbox since the OG Xbox and my first thought about the deal was "that shouldn't be allowed".
It is inexcusable to let a trillion dollar profitable corporation purchase any other profitable corporation. If activision sucks the government should do it's job and investigate them and break them up, not give Microsoft more economic power and less incentive to compete. Good luck getting AB games on whoever tries to launch the next console, if they even bother trying knowing the current hegemony of the gaming landscape.
Microsoft isn't some magic unicorn unqiuely capable of running Activision not like a shit bag and no company should be as big as they already are. It's a hamfisted solution at best to give them control of AB, and one that doesn't actually address or dicentivize future shitty corporate behaviour.
There's one family taking over all the auto dealers in my area.I just started working for them and now if I decide to leave, I feel that I'm screwed if I have to find a job elsewhere in my area and my choices will be low. Microsoft taking over everything is not just bad for consumers, but it's bad for people that work in those industry.

As someone that has somehow played a lot of FPS over the years and amazingly not spent a dime nor a single minute on Call of Duty games, I’m mostly bemused at this whole thing.
Exactly. The games are already microtransactioned and stuck in all different kinds of exclusive deals. These people are just upset it goes against them now.
