Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Wtf is with the massive influx of right wing losers/ troll farm accounts on this thread. I've never seen this many on lemmy before

[–] Sharkwellington@lemmy.one 22 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's a fantastic honeypot. I blocked a couple dozen trolls and went about my day to a cleaner Lemmy experience. 👍

[–] Aloomineum@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

And its great because you can see the activity on comments so its really easy to feel like youve done some spring cleaning

I think most of them are actually tankies, which lemmy unfortunately are rife with. Their behaviour and opinions, especially on Putin's Ukrainian invasion, are completely indistinguishable from the right winger's opinions on the matter.

Which is unsurprising, since both groups uncritically just regurgitate Russian talking points on the subject.

school is out so the edgy teens need a place to congregate

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 17 points 2 years ago

It's only going to grow. Conservatives are worse than cockroaches at infesting anything good.

[–] Kerred@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Its how you win elections just mass spread everywhere. Or make people not vote

[–] assassin_aragorn@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Jesus Christ there's so many

[–] YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

It was expected.

[–] MaxVoltage@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Don't worry you can cus them out in the comments

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Which comments

[–] CAL_08@lemmy.world -4 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I'm not one of them, but if you only want opinions that match your own then what's the point?

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Its not about wanting to hear opinions that match my own. Its about not wanting to hear obvious trolls, like the guy claiming the republicans that voted against this are far-left extremists, or the guy talking about how were funding Nazis and being Russophobic. They are very clearly not sensible comments made in good faith.

[–] Dio@lemmy.world -4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The down votes you received for this baffles yet leaves me unsurprised.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Because he's implying there are no actual troll accounts and I'm just angry that people disagree with me, when that's not the case. Lots of comments here are obvious troll posts

[–] CosmicCleric@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Honestly, not trying to be argumented here, but I think sometimes it is exactly just that, people using the excuse of 'obvious troll' to block, and not examine what they're doing themselves more fully.

It also seems to be more of a generational thing, though it could be more of a bot thing, trying to shape the narrative ("Block those who do not think like ~~how we want you to think~~ you!"), which is a more recent phenomenon.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Sometimes maybe, but when someone is claiming that all the republican senators that voted agains this are far-left extremists, im not going to accept that as a good faith argument.

It also seems to be more of a generational thing, though it could be more of a bot thing, trying to shape the narrative (“Block those who do not think like how we want you to think you!”), which is a more recent phenomenon.

Yes, people have learnt how to deal with bad faith actors.

[–] ghariksforge@lemmy.world -5 points 2 years ago

Disagreeing with your opinion does not make someone a troll. Baseless accusations make you one though.
