Yes, you need to manualy create a .desktop file in the ~/.local/share/applications I usually just copy-paste an already existing desktop file and edit it with any text editor

.desktop
files being Linux shortcuts is something I'd only learned years after starting to use it myself. It's surprisingly a rarely-mentioned feature on many desktop environments.
