I'm convinced everyone who thinks it's a choice is like this man. Or at least they're the loudest.
My best friend back in the day thought this way. The man could not be any straighter. So I asked him:
"Remember going through puberty? Remember how wildly horny you were? If sexuality is a choice, tell me about making your choice.
What was that like? Cause I was horny for Wonder Woman when I was 5, I just kinda knew.
And why in the world would you pick the losing team?! If you're picking, just go with the flow and not get your ass kicked."
That worked! LOL, this dude was raised hardcore Southern Baptist conservative. Called me to chew my ass when I came out atheist on FB. Now he's an atheist lib. Go figure.
Absolutely and completely. I was completely confused the several times people brought up the concept of being gay as a young kid. Not because there was an attraction I was trying to understand, but that I had no damn idea what they were even referencing.
That's part of how I learned my orientation, and that others are distinctly NOT channeling any universal truths with their religious beliefs.
I got a bunch of family members that say these things a lot. One of them in particular calls back to moments in their youth where they were "surrounded by gay people" and implying that its a "vice" they fell into.
Granted this same family member also blames their former friends for their actual former bad habits (drinking, smoking, partying too hard, wasting money beyond their means), also implying they were forced into them, despite them clearly being envious of people doing them now.
