Incredibly misleading and click bait article. The game still has over 6000 concurrent players daily, which is more than enough for an online game.
That'd be good for an indie game, but for a AAA, free to play Halo game? That's almost nobody compared to what they should be pulling. BF 2042 is beating it, even if by a slim margin, and it wasn't even made free.
Makes you wonder is they'll kill MCC to try and push players to infinite which has much more monetization.
