It's not a serious party. So abandon it and join the Democrats. The GOP must go the way of the Whigs.

The problem is that Republicans jumping ship just pulls the Democrats further right. Eventually, leftists will split off and the remaining Democrats will turn into pieces of shit like the current Republicans.

Call me crazy but I'd be hopeful that the overton window snaps back and the Democrats become the new Center-Right party while the vacuum is filled with something more comparable to a European Social Democratic party.

I think this is the time to promote a new neo-conservative party. Me? I don't like it, but I don't like neo-liberalism either, so the democrats are just as impalpable.

But, because of optics and the cognitive dissonance caused by a two party system, I think founding a new party to replace the republican party is a more realistic plan, because they can then still be critical of the democrats, but have nothing to do with the republicans.

Call it the the Conservatives and be done with it.

I wish someone would - the way the system in the US works right now is to have two parties and everything is screwed if one isn't on the level. Obviously we need a responsible conservative party. The only way I see that happening is if the GOP spends a few election cycles out in the desert. And what better way to help make that happen than a major schism?

Truly should be called Fiscal Conservatives right in the name. We actually do need a party that is focused on reform and efficiency which is a great counter to the Democratic party. But I think that would have to be a fresh upstart party not one built out of the current GOP.
