I grew up seeing these birds everywhere. But no matter how many people I ask, no one can tell me what type of bird it is. I’m guessing some type of finch?

I’m in the southern part of Florida, USA, if that’s helpful.

It isn't the worst problem in the world but it is important.
Cats kill a ton of songbirds, so do invasive sparrows.
Humans are also destroying native habitat, so our native species are struggling.

We can ignore it sure, but eventually we won't have any left.
