Expecting global peace in our lifetime is a naive fools errand.

So we should just sit back and do nothing? I would rather strive endlessly for something that's next to impossible than whine hopelessly and make sure it is impossible by inactivity.

Work towards pragmatic policy that's achievable within current constraints.

You can't "expect" peace, ever. It has to be fought for. If the conditions are right, we might see a solid foundation for global peace in the next few decades.

The gap between the imperial powers and the rest of the world has shrunk dramatically and has even inverted in some areas. The 2020s and 2030s will certainly be "interesting", but the imperial beast will be slayed some day.

Once that happens, and the drive for endless growth is surpassed around the world, war will become increasingly rare.
