Please note the following:
* All chatrooms are linked together. If you join one room your messages will be copied to the other platforms.
* Matrix is an open source and potentially distributed chat protocol. The matrix room listed is hosted on matrix.org, a somewhat centralized hub for a lot of currently public rooms. Though the protocol itself is free, libre and open source, the deployment of the protocol resembles a centralized service. This may be fixed in the future with the deployment of independent servers.
* Be aware that both Telegram and Discord are centralized proprietary platforms and do not necessarily protect your rights nor privacy while simultaneously giving power to corporations.
So I can do so in specific moments so long as it’s not during the eclipse?
No. Don't stare at the sun period. The eclipse isn't inherently physically more dangerous to stare at. It's my understanding that the reason it's more dangerous is that it doesn't have the typical brightness which you'd typically react to by squinting or looking at away, so it's more likely you could accidentally not react and damage your eyes.
I see sarcasm doesn't translate very well over text. My apologies
I mean, there's been a huge spike in searches for "why do my eyes hurt", so apparently some people do actually believe that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Let's chalk this one up to Poe's Law.
Meh my eyes are sensitive to reflections on concrete and while driving (though I do try to avoid it). I can’t imagine people willingly looking at the sun
I think the issue is that you can actually look without eye protection during totality. Some people might think "Oh, were at 98% totality, so it should be ok to look," and it isn't. But yeah, it's still pretty damn bright, and you'd think that'd be enough to dissuade everyone, yet here we are.
