reply with features and bug fixes you'd like to see in Philthy, the lemmy fork that runs on this instance. no guarantees I'll get to any of them soon, but particularly low-hanging fruit and well-liked features can be prioritized.

I will cop to still running ejabberd (going on 8~10y? e: ah, more like 14y) so maybe I've already sinned enough to not hurt too much doing this

Pleroma is not for everyone. Minor side effects include weight gain, weight loss, abrupt loss of body hair, blood loss, clogged arteries, appetite suppression, appetite aggression, sudden and explosive bowel movements, irrational fear of loved ones, bleeding gums, severe vomiting, rectal chafing, sensitive nipples, and dizziness. In some cases, lab animals exposed to Pleroma have developed a second spine. More serious side effects include rapid bodily discharge from the nose, ears, mouth and eyes. Pleroma is known to cause spectacular and enduring yeast infections in both men and women. Pleroma will not respect you in the morning. Total tongue dysfunction is possible along with the spontaneous growth of a non-functioning nipple on your upper arm. Cultural side-effects include the affection of a Southern drawl. Chemical dependency on Pleroma is not only possible, but is classified by the government as "likely" or "very likely". Pleroma is not legal in all states. Prolonged use of Pleroma may result in bouts of blindness, hallucination, and allergic reactions to your own saliva. Pleroma may cause you to commit crimes against God or nature. Rashes caused by Pleroma are nothing compared to other side effects including evolutionary reversal in children and an uncontrollable thirst for blood controlled by the lunar cycle. Taking Pleroma may result in impaired function of your motor skills and in some rare cases, illiteracy. Pleroma may become angry at you and seek revenge. Often, men who take Pleroma have reported developing female reproductive organs. Pleroma will not be held responsible should it demand you offer it your eldest son in sacrifice. Should an overdose of Pleroma be accidentally taken, God help you. Some people who take Pleroma have reported itching eye sockets that drove them insane. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or run within five weeks after taking Pleroma. People over forty who take Pleroma have reported that their gums have taken on the color, texture, and taste of chocolate pudding. Taking Pleroma when the temperature is over seventy degrees may result in the melting of your brain, scorched liver, and internal bleeding. Three out of five people who took Pleroma reported that their spouses and children left them. Some doctors will lie about Pleroma, because we pay them to. For additional warning, please see the side of the package. Thank you for choosing Pleroma.

Pleroma is a small Fediverse chat server that is increasingly compatible with Mastodon, because you basically need to be these days. Pleroma is favoured by Nazis for unfortunate historical reasons - one Nazi wrote a how-to on putting up a quick throwaway Pleroma instance, and now if you get a horrible chud in your Mastodon notifications guess what they'll be posting from.

Politically, the Pleroma devs are NOT NAZIS but they are most definitely the other ten guys at the table.

Soapbox is a fork of Pleroma by Alex Gleason, after he was kicked out for being so obnoxious that even the other ten guys at the table wouldn't put up with him. Gleason is a transphobic gay man who started TERF instance spinster.xyz, which federated with Gab. Gleason was working at Truth Social for a while and quit that to work at Nostr, which is Bluesky with bitcoins and more overt Nazis. Posting from Soapbox at all is likely to get people on Mastodon looking askance at you and causing their fediblock finger to twitch. Soapbox is extremely favoured by the Dark Fediverse of all the sites that were such shitheads that they get widely blocked.

Akkoma is another fork of Pleroma run by nice people. Gleason called Akkoma the "tr***y server" which I understand they were most amused by. Akkoma is the one of these to go for.

If you run Mastodon, run the Treehouse+Glitch patch set. It's where features that Website Boy has decried as unacceptable get popular before Website Boy suddenly decides they were a great idea all along. (Recent examples include quote-tooting and search that works.)

If Pleroma looks good, run Akkoma.

The third chat server is Misskey, and you want the Firefish fork (formerly Calckey) because Misskey is also run by transphobes, which led to Calckey declaring themselves a fork and not just a patchset and changing their name.

All of these are progressively approaching the Mastodon extensions to and interpretations of ActivityPub because that's where the action is.

I've been meaning to ping you to ask for which toot that was (because I recall seeing it at the time), thanks for reposting somewhere (slightly) more findable :D
