What do y'all think about working excessive hours on something that is wholely yours(not working for someone else)?

[-] Darkenfolk@dormi.zone 14 points 7 months ago

Good job exploiting yourself sucker. No, but seriously keep in mind that your time is limited, especially when you got little kids at home.

While your clients may appreciate any extra work you do for them and it might even get you "loyal" clients, little timmy would also like to spend some time with you.

Totally agree about the kids thing. Being a parent should always take precedence over working(besides working extra to fund the basic needs of the household). Good point :)

This isn't exactly the most prevalent opinion, but a major part of how these things work is the induced mentality. The main question would be "are you working yourself to death, trying to meet unrealistic expectations set by the dominant societal mindset?"

If, instead, you're just tinkering and like doing what you're doing, that's a different story.

I am in the tinkerer category so I guess that is why I found the blanket statement of this post be not entirely accurate.

When I am excited about something I think about it almost constantly. I know there are a lot of other people in the same boat.

I hear that. Fuck the blanket statement, except where relevant. :-)

Depends on if you enjoy it. At that point it's about weighing the over-under on the marginal benefits of increasing income or free time.

[-] olutukko@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Eh. To each to their own but flexing with your feats or lifestyle is pretty dumb anyways

[-] sum_yung_gai@lemm.ee 4 points 7 months ago

The flexing aspect is kinda dumb. I do think working a lot is ok if you are enjoying yourself and not neglecting other aspects of your life.

[-] olutukko@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Exactly. Do what you enjoy. If it's work, then work
