A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

So, here's a question, what would be the appropriate Palestinian response to this?
Fight back by any means necessary.
Grief?
Not whatever Hamas is doing.
Okay, Oct. 7 is what they did, but what are they currently doing that you think warrants the slaughter of tens of thousands of Palestinian children?
What level of response to that do you think Palestinians are entitled to?
Or do you think they deserve this for existing, and oppose any resistance at all?
You are aware that Hamas has continued armed fighting, including firing rockets at civilians since October 7, right? Just because Oct. 7 was by far the worse, that doesn't mean they laid down their arms and surrendered.
So you think they should just let the genocide continue?
I think Hamas should surrender and release the hostages. I don't see another realistic way to end the war at this point.
Well if they surrender then they will just kill more with less resistance
Palestinians are opposing the wrong people. If Hamas operatives were unable to operate publicly this war would be a lot easier for Israel to conduct in a manner that minimizes civilian casualties.
Hamas ≠ Palestinians
Hamas may target Israeli civilians in their war against the IDF, and that is fucking evil, but Palestinian civilians are just trying to survive. The IDF kills orders of magnitude more Palestinian civilians in their war against Hamas, and that is orders of magnitude more evil.
Expecting Palestinian civilians, half of which are children, and all of which are currently experiencing a man-made famine, to lead the charge against Hamas or die in the crossfire is fucking deranged.
Hamas is the defacto government of Gaza. They have more support amongst the people than most governments in working democracy. So yes Hamas does equal Palestinians in Gaza.
More than half of the current population had also not yet been born when Hamas was elected, so you can not reasonably say it's their responsibility when no election has been held since and when even Netanyahu personally has supported Hamas financially and helped them destabilize competing parties who wanted peace
What they are currently doing is still sending unguided rockets towards Israel, rockets that have an accuracy measured in kilometers and can thus only be used as terror weapons. Is Israel just supposed to eat those? Their defenses aren't perfect and every single alert means that people have to interrupt whatever they are doing and rush into shelter within seconds.
Because every single death in Gaza is either that of a child or a woman. What a ridiculous claim. Here's another reminder that the only numbers we have from Gaza are those reported by Hamas themselves. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't even trust them as far as I can throw them.
There are legitimate forms of resistance, both armed and unarmed. Neither Hamas nor any other militant Palestinian organization has ever focused on legitimate resistance. It's always been terrorism. The difference between Israel and its enemies is that civilian casualties are an unintended side-effect to Israel, one which they are trying to minimize through all sorts of measures, whereas for Palestinian organizations, it's the main goal. Had the October 7 attacks limited themselves to military targets like border fortifications and command centers only, that would have been legitimate armed resistance. But they did not, they only did this in order to enable the murder, rape and abduction of civilians.
Anti-semitic racist justifying a genocide while ignoring things like the March of Return and other non-violent protests ending in slaughter from Israeli snipers literally wearing t-shirts showing stick figure pregnant women in cross hairs with the caption "One shot, Two kills"
You do realize the internet and the ability to automatically translate the genocidal rheoteric coming from the Israeli government has changed things, right?
People who don't speak Hebrew can now translate this shit in real time.
Oh right, storming a national border and flying incendiary balloons into Israel is considered non-violent when it comes to talking about Palestinians.
Your timeline is wrong with your bullshit for justifying the slaughter of peaceful unarmed people.
But I wouldn't expect much more from someone that believes ICBMs are not ballistic missiles.
What does ICBM stand for again?
Sorry, I guess your lack of reading comprehension goes along with your lack of knowledge of history. My timeline is quite accurate as to the events that took place during the violent border protests known as "march of return". They even burned a bunch of tires to conceal their activities.
What's linear time?
Bad Hasbara.
