It seems lemmygrad.ml is federating with them and I was just wondering if this instance will too. I used to browse r/chapotraphouse before reddit banned them and I didn't know the community was still alive in hexbear until recently. I'm sure a lot of leftists in this instance would also benefit from being able to browse hexbear contents

Okay maybe I need some explanation here but I was under the impression that, as long as your home instance isn't actively blocking that other instance, you're able to interact/join any* community on that other instance.

I'm quite new to Lemmy so maybe I missed that info or misunderstood what being federated to another instance means.

Instances can be configured however they want. The standard right now is a blacklist (federate with everyone who asks except blocked instances). Hexbear was considering going with a whitelist instead (only federating with a small handful of servers).
