2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Trotting out my inaugural Silver Mountain Monday. This is definitely a setup I want to repeat. Wonderful shave.

Today was a test shave. I badly needed to refresh the edge on this razor and decided to do it with a starter kit of sharpening stones that I purchased to see how they would perform. I was really surprised by how good this edge was. I was prepared to touch it up after this shave with one of my more expensive finishing stones. Instead I enjoyed the shave so much, I will leave it as is.

I learn something everyday! Here's the video

Today is Memorial Day here in the states. It is a holiday that marks the beginning of summer but, more importantly, it is a day when we honor those in our military who died serving their country.

It's reassuring that this setup passes the gcgallant test because it's essentially my setup (I have the 3000/10000 combination stone), and I don't have any other stones to compare my setup to.

Thanks! The drawing out of the bevel shape that your trailing edge strokes produce helps with the transition to the 10K. I don’t think that the jump between 3K and 10K will be much different than the jump between 5K and 10K, but It’s worthwhile to push sharpness on the 10K to see what it can do.

at some point, I'll be getting a Jnat like you and Pudding like for comparison, and I'm also curious whether I can feel the difference between 8k, 10k, or 12k Naniwa finishing stones

I think that you will. Once you have shaved with 10K and 12K synthetic edges, and assuming you like that level of keenness, 8K will likely feel unfinished.

Moving to packing peanut testing last July, and then in September, made a huge difference for me. Now I have a means to tailor keenness consistently and thereby improve my idea of how apex and edge feel varies with different sharpening stone patterns. You're going to enjoy this rabbit hole. I'm sure of it.

Yeah, definitely a fun rabbit hole extension ;)
