You should be able to quote the law then. Because the law I know is unenforceable by design as it requires four eyewitnesses testifying to prove the act happened. The only times I know of people who have been punished is that when they were caught in homosexual acts with minors, i.e. rape.
Edit: since you are Canadian -going by .ca- I may as well respond by:
"In a lot of colonial countries, you can be killed or sterilized for being an indigenous woman.
Canada is no exception."
