I bought sync pro and have sync for lemmy installed; there's no way to activate pro right now, and afaik that option is not coming.
Presently you can buy a permanent ad removal in-app for $20, you can subscribe to sync ultra for $17/yr, or you can use it free with ads.
It's a good app, and the dev absolutely deserves to make money. If I understand correctly, developing sync is his full-time job. The prices are definitely steeper than with sync for reddit, but Lemmy is a much smaller community. He can't necessarily expect as many sales.
I don't mind paying again to be honest, I think I paid like €5 for Sync for Reddit, which is fine, but €20 is a bit much for me. Would be great if I could get some kind of discount because I've already purchased Sync for Reddit
In Sync for Lemmy, I currently see a lifetime sub of $99.99, so I'm waiting for the price to decrease or something because, like you said, since Lemmy is a smaller community that price tag is a bit steep at the moment. I hope it's reduced or people who got lifetime in Sync for Reddit can get that purchase back. Thanks for the quick reply.
That's for ultra lifetime.
In the lemmy community someone said that a one-time Pro version is coming later, once the app leaves beta
There already ist, it's 109€ for me.
No that's the lifetime subscription. If you only want ads-free it's about 15euros.
20€ now
Yo I just checked this.
A hundred fucking dollars?
Jesus christ, lemmy is still in a fledgling state compared to reddit i don't care if you designed the most perfect app known to man, this is some insane overvaluation.
That's for the lifetime Ultra subscription which are a set of extra features. The base features are free.
The base features include injecting ads into the site. So you at minimum have to pay for the app to not make your experience shitty.
And what defines an extra feature?
A hundred bucks for a reader app is a fucking lot.
$20 usd to remove ads
Thank you. This update went live after my comment.
The app does not have this under settings. I jumped straight into settings expecting of course that is where it must live, and the Ultra subscription does (and also mentions ads)
However as you said, there is a no ads unlock on the initial drop down for $20.
I'm gonna send that as feedback.
That's ultra, it's not similar to what Pro was. Sync Pro was like 4 EUR. It removed the ads. Option to remove ads now is 22 EUR. A huge price increase. Ultra was 36 or so, now 100+. Again a huge price increase.
Since beta 25 it is now possible (and the developer had mentioned before that it was coming).
Edit: I stand corrected (should have read your comment more attentively), what's available is, as you say, the option to remove ads with a one-time payment, as well as the sync ultra subscription. I'm not sure how the ad removal option is different from the pro mode in sync for reddit, though.
You are correct. Upon further inspection, sync pro is something different and is only for support. Thank you!
