You know Biden is not part of the House and the House is run by Republicans, right?

Biden denounces ICC for ‘outrageous’ implication of equivalence between Israel and Hamas

The Biden administration on Monday forcefully denounced efforts by the International Criminal Court to seek arrest warrants for top Israeli officials and Hamas leaders, saying the court’s efforts put the terrorist organization and a top US ally on equivalent footing.

[-] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

Denouncing is different from state sanctions. How biden has implicated that he opposes this bill according to the BBC https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm5512l7yero

[-] EchoCT@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

In the interest of learning, the ICC is not a state actor, so what exactly is the difference in this case?

EDIT: The sanction is actual travel and economic restrictions on members of the ICC. "Denounce" is the typical posturing. For those who care...

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

His words mean absolutely nothing. Biden will let the both-sides theater play out when convenient. When the both-sides theater does not favor israel Biden will bypass congress and use slimy loopholes to send israel weapons.

In earlier words Biden has already denounced the ICC and said they were not going to follow the arrest command. Called the ICC outrageous and simped for Netanyahu. Some lip-service to wash his bloody hands with now doesn't magically make him innocent.

If Biden truly cared about international law he'd be doing everything in his power to prevent these sanctions from becoming reality. But he's too busy bypassing congress to build his Trump wall against immigrants.

[-] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

If his words mean nothing then stop posting his words denouncing the ICC as proof he supports these sanctions. Let me know if he signs it.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world -3 points 3 months ago

His words you quoted mean nothing as they are even contradicted by his earlier statement.

If he signs it will you support a third party instead of Joe Biden?

[-] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

Ha why not. In fact I'll go further. I just donated 200 dollars to humanitarian aid in gaza. I half thought about making it on the condition of him signing this bill, but then I thought it would be cruel for them to never receive it. It helps more than denying the reality of any differences between parties. After all of we can accept that reality why would they try to go any further?

[-] TheEEEdiot@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago

Putting your money where your mouth is. That is one of the best flexes I've seen today. Well done!

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

My hat off to you sir.

[-] Alsephina@lemmy.ml -4 points 3 months ago

Of course shitlibs are downvoting this lmao

[-] cybersin@lemm.ee 13 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

OK, so replace his photo with any congressperson if you insist on being so pedantic.

The point is the absurdity of american government, which Biden as the president, is a symbol of.

When advantageous, most republicans would also claim that the US respects international law, then turn around and pass a vote like this.

EDIT: about a third of house dems supported the bill

[-] takeda@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago

Well Mike Johnson would be most fitting as he is the speaker and decides which bills are up for a vote.

[-] RustyShackleford@literature.cafe 6 points 3 months ago

They probably don’t, but obfuscation gets more clicks when trolling for engagement.

[-] Sagittarii@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

"Trolling" is when you put a picture of someone with something that they agree with

[-] Alsephina@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Way to completely miss the point. He's obviously there cuz he's the current US president.

If they wanted to dunk on biden specifically of course, they could've just pointed out how he's has been bypassing congress to send weapons to israel faster, or how he walked back the few sanctions on israeli settlers that were only for optics anyway since it was to pretend as if the state itself wasn't behind it, but this is just the most recent shit the US is doing.

Edit: Looks like Biden does agree with the move against the ICC too, so there's no need to bring up all the other shit he's done specifically.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

Under the caption about something the House did...

[-] Alsephina@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

If you're gonna be such a pedantic shitlib, should I edit the caption to be something from this article Linkerbaan mentioned? Since it's about this incident specifically.

Why go out of your way so much to try defending a fascist? Why do you have an image saved on your device to defend this piece of shit online?

[-] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Linkerbaan's article isn't on this bill. Articles on this bill say he doesn't support it https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm5512l7yero

Again denouncing and sanctioning have differences. He wags his finger, but he is against punching them down.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I'd be Ok with changing that caption, don't blame Biden for the stupid shit the House is doing.

[-] Sagittarii@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

Being pedantic and defending fascists is also very hot right now among shitlibs apparently

Replace the caption with any of the other shit biden specifically has done that they mentioned if you're this much of a redditor

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world -1 points 3 months ago

I'm all for blaming Biden for things he did.

Sanctioning the ICC is not one of them and was done by his opposition.

[-] Sagittarii@lemm.ee 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Dems and reps are equally part of the ruling capitalist class and are the parties of capital. There is no real "opposition" between the two aside from optics.

And as you'd expect, Biden does of course agree with this move like another user mentioned.

[-] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

75% of Democrats voted against this

100% of Republicans voted for

Dumbfucks: bOTh siDes!

[-] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Biden does not agree with this move. Denouncing is using words and sanctions are actions. Biden has implied that he opposes this bill and his administration have stated that they do not support sanctions. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm5512l7yero

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world -5 points 3 months ago

There absolutely is opposition between the sides.

The right wants to take away womens rights.

The left wants to take away gun rights.

Just as a quick example.

[-] Sagittarii@lemm.ee 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

? Of course there is opposition between the left and the right. What does that have to do with two right wing genocidal capitalist parties?

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

They are not both right wing.

Examples:

Left:

Student loan forgiveness.

Right:

Blocking student loan forgiveness.

Alternately:

Right:

Capital Punishment

Left:

Blocking Capital Punishment

[-] Sagittarii@lemm.ee 0 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Is it also "left wing" to bypass congress to send weapons to a genocidal state faster? Or denounce the ICC for actions against that state like in the post you're commenting on?

Studen loan

Education Dept. announces highest federal student loan interest rate in more than a decade

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

And the student loan interest rate has fuck all to do with the plans on the left to forgive student loans, plans which are continually blocked on the right.

You can't take a single issue and go "BoTh sIdEs aRe tHe sAmE" when they clearly are not.

The right wants to invade Mexico for gods sake!

[-] Sagittarii@lemm.ee -1 points 3 months ago

Shitlibs being pedantic and trying to defend fascists is always hilarious, even if expected

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I don't know what a sHiTlIb is supposed to be here, but I do know it's a term that conservative communities use for anyone who opposes them.

[-] Imnebuddy@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

"I have never really understood exactly what a 'liberal' is, since I have heard 'liberals' express every conceivable opinion on every conceivable subject. As far as I can tell, you have the extreme right, who are fascist racist capitalist dogs like Ronald Reagan, who come right out and let you know where they're coming from. And on the opposite end, you have the left, who are supposed to be committed to justice, equality, and human rights. And somewhere between those two points is the liberal.

As far as I'm concerned, 'liberal' is the most meaningless word in the dictionary. History has shown me that as long as some white middle-class people can live high on the hog, take vacations to Europe, send their children to private schools, and reap the benefits of their white skin privilege, then they are 'liberal'. But when times get hard and money gets tight, they pull off that liberal mask and you think you're talking to Adolf Hitler. They feel sorry for the so-called underprivileged just as long as they can maintain their own privileges."
