Looks good!
But if you want to use the posts for play, you'll likely want to connect them with rails at the top

I do plan on doing a top rail so we can hang things off as decoration. It's extremely solid though as is.
It definitely looks like it's solid enough for a bed, but it doesn't look like it's solid enough to hang a sling from or tie up a fella to.
Looks very good! Nice job!
She looks solid. 10/10 wood sleep.
That glue up seems a bit excessive.
You mean all those clamps? Nah that looks about right to me. The thinner/narrower the boards are, the closer together the clamps need to be.
They don't look particularly thin.
compared to, say, a glue up connecting 8 inch boards on edge they do.
(wow I'm never posting from my phone again, really had to fix that.)
There were actually a couple spots where I had small cracks afterwards. I could have had a few more clamps on honestly.
Cracks as in the joint wasn't as tight as you like?
Yeah the joint just didn't get as tight as I would've liked in a couple spots. But after planing and sanding, staining and varathane it's not really noticeable.
know the feeling.
What do you think of Varathane? few retailers in my area carry anything but Minwax products.
This was my first time using them and just their clear finish. It was actually my first time clear coating anything so I don't have much of an opinion but it seemed to go on easy, very minimal brush strokes left behind but the ones I can see are likely due to my lack of experience.
Given urethane often has a reputation for being tricky to brush on with good results, I'm going to take this as a ringing endorsement.
Better too many clamps than too few. Use 'em if you've got 'em.
