So that’s how circular saw blades are made… never knew.

Do you mind giving me an idea about how far you've been with these ? I'm struggling to know when I should change mine. (I've done a check up at the repair shop, I know it's fine for now)

For the most part, replace it if/when the chain starts slipping. It normally starts on the small rings on the back.

Get a chain wear tool (just a piece of metal with 2 lengths), replace the chain if its beyond the second wear mark, this will mean the chainrings get worn down a lot less. having a worn chain will trash your chainrings relatively fast.

Its not something that will break suddenly, it just gets more and more annoying. My bike is at almost 13,000Km and is on its second set of chainrings.

Oh, nice to know thanks ! I find them pricey though, I'll try a ruler tomorrow and see if I need the dedicated tool or not.

I actually don't know how old the stuff on my bike is, but I have a fancy sticker that says "tested for safety by the police department..... in 2013", so yeah, I'm a bit nervous about the consumables.

The simple checker tools cost almost nothing and I'd recommend getting one. But if you have to use a ruler here's how to do it properly

Oh, they're not supposed to look like that? I think I'm due for a replacement too.

Ouch you're going to need a new chain too

I went with a belt instead of a chain, never looked back. 32km per day, 5 days a week for the last 6 years and still running good. Manual bike, not electric, so the load isn't super high and I use my gears so I don't push it too hard.

Nice, it'll never look that good again.

I find that when I favor one gear combo too much this happens and when it starts skipping links its time to sqitch it out

Is this on an electric bike? Ive never replaced my chain ring, but I ended up getting a hub-geared belt drive bike last year after getting fed up with crappy derailleurs and replacing broken chains. It's brilliant.
