Just to be clear, they defederated from us, not the other way.

Hopefully it's only temporary, but just a FYI if you are subscribed to any communities there.

As for the reason, recently there have been many spam accounts being created on lemmings.world, which I'm banning daily, and piefed.social decided they'll be defederating as a response.

I'll update this post if something changes.

This is unfortunate. Have you looked into setting up some kind of sign-up filter or automod to deal with the spammers?

There is an automod, the accounts were banned fairly quickly. I'm generally active with moderation.
