Lemmings.world donations (donations.lemmings.world)
submitted 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) by rikudou to c/lemmings_world_instance

Just FYI, if you like using the instance and have some spare money, I'd appreciate if you donated to the instance. You can see a detailed breakdown of my costs and donations on the donations page.

If you don't have the extra money (or don't want to spend them here), it's fine as well, the instance is not going down and I can fund it, but if you can help cover a part of the current negative balance of ~466 USD, I'll be very grateful!

Edit: This post will stay pinned for a few days so more people notice, afterwards I'll unpin it.

Hey folks,

Made a post yesterday on !politics@lemmy.world

Here it is on our instance: https://lemmings.world/post/21083652

It shows up whether I'm logged in or not, but I was surprised to see it at +1 after a day - so I checked !politics@lemmy.world , and it's missing from the New queue where I would expect to see it based on its position as seen on: https://lemmings.world/c/politics@lemmy.world

Thank you very much folks!

💭Wonder how often this has happened to various Lemmings over the years... hopefully most folks know to try again somehow and don't think they're ignored! 🙂

It’s officially midnight where I live, so Merry Christmas to all the users of this instance (and everyone else)!

It’s been another year running this instance, and I think we’re doing pretty well. The instance is more stable than it was last year and generally works much better—we went from ~97% uptime to ~99.7%, which is pretty sweet and about as high as we can get without spending too much money. We could push it a bit higher, but hey—what would I do in 2025 if I solved all the problems in 2024?

The world seems to get crazier every year, so I’m really happy to have this instance as a place where we’re not bombarded with corporate-driven “algorithmic” craziness. It’s refreshing in a world where every piece of information is curated to squeeze the most money out of you.

I’d like to thank all the users of my instance—honestly, you’re great! Aside from a few trolls here and there, you make the community a wonderful place. If every instance had users like you, Lemmy would be pretty close to an online paradise!

I also want to thank the other admins who work alongside us to make Lemmy (and the threadiverse in general) better. I won’t name everyone (and I don’t want to forget anyone), so I won’t tag people individually, but here’s a list of instances I love working with, in no particular order: lemmy.world, lemmy.dbzer0.com, feddit.org, feddit.uk, reddthat.com, sh.itjust.works, discuss.online, lemmy.cafe, lemmy.ca, lemmy.nz, dubvee.org, programming.dev, and probably others I’m forgetting (sorry if I missed you—my memory isn’t what it used to be).

I don’t want to make this post any longer than it already is, so I’ll just say: I hope everyone reading this has a pleasant holiday season and a fantastic 2025. See you around!

Defederation from piefed.social (self.lemmings_world_instance)
submitted 5 months ago by rikudou to c/lemmings_world_instance

Just to be clear, they defederated from us, not the other way.

Hopefully it's only temporary, but just a FYI if you are subscribed to any communities there.

As for the reason, recently there have been many spam accounts being created on lemmings.world, which I'm banning daily, and piefed.social decided they'll be defederating as a response.

I'll update this post if something changes.

RSS feed of your saved posts (self.lemmings_world_instance)
submitted 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) by rikudou to c/lemmings_world_instance

I wrote an app that makes it possible to have your Lemmy saved posts in a RSS feed. For example, if you're like me and save posts because you want to come to them later when you have the time.

How to do it?

Few simple steps:

  • you must be logged in to lemmings.world instance
  • you visit https://lemmings.world/rss/init
  • the response will contain a JSON string which contains, among others, the unique URL of your RSS feed (looks like https://lemmings.world/rss/4e64935e0613f6e2e03cd420f71df14476e769b11704652921c1a7b2150f0888)
    • the URL can be accessed publicly, but the URL is completely random and cannot be guessed
    • that means no one will find out by accident, but if you post the link publicly anywhere, everyone has access
    • if the URL ever gets compromised and you'd like to remove it, send me a PM
    • by default you only get posts, but you can modify it by adding optional parameter include
      • it's a comma separated list that can contain posts and comments
      • ?include=posts - only posts (same as omitting the include parameter)
      • ?include=comments - only comments
      • ?include=posts, comments - include both comments and posts
  • afterwards just put the URL in your favourite RSS client
  • if you ever forget the URL, just visit https://lemmings.world/rss/init (while logged in), you can copy the URL again

If you're from another instance, you can either join lemmings.world or ask your admins to include the RSS app on their instance as well, it's open source and can be found at https://github.com/RikudouSage/LemmyPersonalRss

Federation issues with lemmy.world (self.lemmings_world_instance)
submitted 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) by rikudou to c/lemmings_world_instance

Edit: Problem has been fixed and we're slowly catching up, in a few hours everything should be as usual.

We are having some technical issues with content federation, meaning most of the content from lemmy.world is not displayed on our instance.

I'm working on solving the issue, though it appears to be a tough one. For the time being, the experience for users of lemmy.world will be degraded.

I have found around 20 search engine pages worth lemmings.world pages, where one search engine page is 10 results, so in total like 200 indexed subpages of the lemmings.world ?

https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=site%3Alemmings.world&p=19

https://duckduckgo.com/?hps=1&q=site%3Alemmings.world&ia=web

Is it too low or too much considering amount of content posted here?

Having account on https://lemmings.world, like 10 hours ago I have been trying to post a reply in a community that is hosted on a different instance (monero.town), the progress wheel was constantly turning on the Repply button and the browser developer console (F12) shown Error 502 Bad gateway ("invalid response from the upstream server" - https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Status/502). "Bad gateway" error is also shown by the Lemmy on login form at lemmings.world.

That turning wheel also appears on a new post/topic submission button (creating topic on external lemmy.ml community being on lemmings.world ).

After trying to search in my home instance, https://lemmings.world/search?q=502+error&type=All&listingType=All&page=1&sort=TopAll It output nothing and the console again shown Error 502:

...

GET https://lemmings.world/api/v3/resolve_object?q=502 error [HTTP/1.1 502 Bad Gateway 0ms]

XHRGET https://lemmings.world/api/v3/user/report_count? [HTTP/1.1 502 Bad Gateway 0ms] ...

I just created my account yesterday because feddit.de is so broken at this point that I can't use it anymore. At first everything worked flawlessly, but today I couldn't load my subscribed and local feed from Eternity and Voyager and now in the web version it loads really slow.

Is anyone else having this problem?

17

There is a (new) community without mods: https://lemmings.world/c/investiranje There may be more but I haven't looked. I doubt that the admin wants their instance to be filled up with modless communities that do not contain any posts. I therefore suggest that for new communities to be made, people may have to get explicit approval from an admin. Or as an alternative, perhaps remove c's that have been moderator-less for a certain time?

18

Posting this from lemmy.world because I wasn't able to from lemmings.world. I also wasn't able to upvote comments, and thumbnails of newer posts are appearing blank.

19

Hey,

Is there a reason why all the local community avatars appear to be missing (and maybe the banners too)? Can they be restored, do they need to be re-uploaded, or is there another problem?

Current spam wave (self.lemmings_world_instance)
submitted 1 year ago by rikudou to c/lemmings_world_instance

You may have noticed the current spamwave, I've deployed an automod that should ban almost all the spam within a minute, but if you notice any leftovers, do report them, please.

Sadly, because lemmings.world is not the target of the abuse, our removals and bans don't federate to other instances, so this is only a local solution. But at least our users don't see (as much of) the spam.

We're running the latest 0.19.3 version of Lemmy. You might need to log out and log back in to fix problems in some clients.

Side note: I'm always looking for donations, if you can and want to donate, you can do so at https://donations.lemmings.world

Merry Christmas to all the users of this instance! (If you celebrate something else, just substitute Christmas with whatever you celebrate)

I wish you all a successful next year and thank you for being part of the Lemmings community!

Some of their communities don't seem to be refreshing since they updated their instance a couple of days ago.. is there an issue with the federation?

Lemmings.world has been upgraded (self.lemmings_world_instance)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by rikudou to c/lemmings_world_instance

The server has been upgraded and has more RAM now, so everything should be a little bit faster. I've also upgraded 3rd party frontends.

Side note, I don't really know where are Lemmings.world users from, so if you left your preferred server maintenance time in your timezone in the comments, I'd appreciate it.

Lemmings.world is slow. [Solved] (self.lemmings_world_instance)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by Alby003 to c/lemmings_world_instance

Most of the time, lemmings.world is just slow and failing to load. Showing errors most of the time. Also, posting posts is incredibly slower than normal. When I compare the lemmings.world with other rooms, they are much faster.

Is this happening only to me or to everyone?
