Good luck with the 7800xt, I think that would be pretty ideal if you get a price you’re happy with for it. For the 3060ti I’d probably go with a 7600xt instead personally, unless you want the raytracing performance (probably not useful for older games) or the cuda cores. The 4060ti also has a 16gb vram version iirc, which might come in around the price point you’re hoping for on Black Friday (we can hope, anyway). Either way, good luck!
I think I might actually be lucky. I found one sweet deal already. So I think it's a likely candidate even though it's maybe a bit overkill for my setup.
Thanks for your comment!
I think a big question is, what framerate do you want? 30/60/144? Do you also want to run at the highest quality settings?
For reference, I have a 3080 and can 1440 most games at 144hz, settings maxed out. A few new games from this year need some settings turned down, but you mention last gen games, so this shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks for your reply. I think I would be aiming for ~100 FPS. I'll consider the 3080 during my hunt!
I have a 3060ti TUF, and I can say that it's a generally quiet card. It uses the same cooler from the 3070 and 3080 TUF models. It also has a switch for Quiet Mode and Performance Mode, so you can adjust cooling behavior that way, if needed.
If you have it on the desk with you in performance mode, you can hear it when it's spinning up, but with normal headphone cans, I haven't found it to be particularly noticeable (unless your headphones are open-back). Quiet was a necessity for me, and this card has been great in that regard.
Also, it plays Metro Exodus on max settings (@ 1080p, 240Hz) just fine. I don't have a 1440p setup myself, but when it first came out, it was considered to be the lowest entry point for 1440p, though I think people generally agree that going up to a 3070 or above is still preferable.
Anyway, that's my two cents.
Thank you for the reply!
