John Oberth, the creator of the Oberth class, really didn't think things through. Like how do you go from top to bottom? Water slide? (I saw that post lol) yeah try to tell me there's a turbo lift in those pylons. Go ahead.

It could make sense if... the engineering deck is in the upper hull, and the lower hull is actually just a cargo hold with the life support usually left off? It looks like there are no windows. Maybe in order have no other active power systems nearby which could interfere with that sensor array?

Either space magic or someone invented Michael Jackson turbolifts

I believe this diagram can explain everything.

That seems quite inefficient...

Well, now I kinda do want to try and tell you that, just to see what your response will be.

I'm no engineer but there's a dozen reasons why I think putting a turbo lift there would suck.

My money is on people just Transporter back n forth.

Edit: John Oberth did not like the mixing of Upper and lower decks personnel. It's segregation plain and simple.

Rise up, lower decks!! Overthrow your upper Deck masters!

Not exactly their best work.

Mariner crashing that Oberth class really was a blessing in disguise

I'm sorry but it's an awful, ugly, science runabout... that's its. I may be biased because I hate the design...

I must object to the libel of the Miranda class. That is one of my favorite starship designs of all time, Star Trek or otherwise.

I have no problem dumping on the Oberth class, though. Those things are crap.

Miranda is pretty cool ngl ~~even if it is kinda weak~~

You telling me a light cruiser from the end of the TOS Era isn't as mighty as the "totally not a battleship" TNG Era Galaxy and Sovereign class ships?
