Vaping didn't help me quit, lozenges and lining up my quitting date with some dental work that you're not supposed to smoke with was what finally worked for me.

To stop smoking I will smoke something else. A better logic would be, I'll use something that can have a reduced nicotine content.

The logic is flawed here because vapor and smoke are completely different things. You wouldn't conflate the steam coming off a pot of boiling water with the charred remains of that frozen pizza you forgot about in the oven an hour ago would you?

Worked for a close friend of mine, he went from a pack a day to vaping, and was then able to lower the concentration of nicotine gradually over time. He still vapes, but no nicotine, and he never went back to cigarettes.

I don't personally know one person who did. They just moved onto doing both

[-] VintageTech@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

I did. I smoked from 1988 until 2010'ish and also chewed tobacco from '01 - '10 as well.

A friend had Strawberry Rhubarb vape so I tried it, loved it, then converted to vape. I slowly decreased the nicotine amount until it was 0-nic and then from there I started becoming more strict like no vaping at work, no vaping while driving until it got to the point where I just didn't vape. Then I got bronchitis.

I got better and then began exercising more. I plateaued and saw a doctor. COPD.

Now I'm just depressed all the time because I apparently have Anhedonia to boot.

So I'm gambling with 20% of my take home in hopes one of these strategies has a huge payout so my wife and kid can be taken care of when I'm gone, which will likely be under a decade.

Going cold turkey is supposedly not as delicious as it sounds, but it’s probably the best way.

I quit some 20 years ago without using vape (did it exist back then? Not sure) or any medication. That day, after careful consideration I made up my mind and never looked back.

And not just because of my health (it was a very important factor) but also because I had realized how much money I was throwing away. Thousands each year.

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yes. I moved from cigarettes to vape about five years ago. I was steadily reducing vaping to quit entirely before the pan happened and I allowed myself to continue vaping to aid anxiety. I have not attempted to quit since.

I quit smoking cigarettes after moving to vape but vape isn't better for you so, it's just reading one for another.
