NextCloud Docked (alien.top)
submitted 11 months ago by dan3834@alien.top to c/main@selfhosted.forum

I'm looking to add NextCloud to my Docker Compose setup, I already have Caddy doing reverse proxy for Vaultwarden and a couple of other bits, and I just want the file sync part of NextCloud, no calendars or sharing etc.

Am I better off using this container: https://hub.docker.com/_/nextcloud/

Or this one? https://github.com/nextcloud/all-in-one

Why not simply ask /r/Nextcloud?

All in one was pretty simple to install...just did it yesterday. I have an existing nginx, so I didn't use their reverse proxy.

They have a larger Docker compose example with maybe 15 environment variables that I used..the shorter compose examples didn't let me customize as I wanted.

I didn't understand port 11000 was the only port I needed open and I beat my head against the wall trying to connect to 80 and 443. Moral of the story, if you can read, it'll be super simple...if your a moron like me...it's harder 😂

I use the normal image https://hub.docker.com/_/nextcloud/ and have that running paired with traefik as reverse proxy and no issues.

If you just want to sync files I recommend you Syncthing

Or try ownCloud infinite scale, it’s fast

I've used nextcloud for years now at work. It's good but has grown to become this 'can do it all' monster. If you're really only looking for file sync, I would really recommend to play with Syncthing first and see if it fits the bill.

Hello,

You can achieve your goal of setting up NextCloud for file sync only by using the official NextCloud Docker container. The official container is well-maintained and widely used, ensuring stability and security. You can find it on Docker Hub here: https://hub.docker.com/_/nextcloud/

The 'all-in-one' container you mentioned is a more comprehensive setup that includes additional components, which may not align with your specific requirements for file sync only. To keep it simple and efficient, the official NextCloud container should be your choice.

If you have any more questions or need assistance with the setup, feel free to ask.

Best regards,
