Servers and phones: Are we a joke to you?

[-] Hubi@feddit.de 52 points 1 year ago

Where is Linux most popular?

*points at server*

[-] angrymouse@lemmy.world 33 points 1 year ago

Points at cellphones also, but fuck that I like the meme

[-] LaggyKar@programming.dev 19 points 1 year ago

And supercomputers. And most embedded devices powerful enough to run a full OS.

[-] lemmyworldwungo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Don't forget steam deck and most gaming consoles

[-] LaggyKar@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago

Most game consoles don't run Linux

I believe the the Playstation is BSD based.

Though I love Linux with all my heart, i don't even recommend it to family. Mostly out of fear of having to provide tech support .

[-] skomposzczet@vlemmy.net 23 points 1 year ago

Are you not already tech support for your family?

[-] Xeelee@kbin.social 10 points 1 year ago

No. I only know Linux. At least that's what I tell them.

[-] LSlowmotion@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Gotta do that from now. Thanks for the advice.

I do because I already am tech support and Linux is easier than windows. Now my close family uses Linux and very rarely needs any help

[-] atmur@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Same here. I’m going to be tech support anyway, so they might as well be using an operating system that doesn’t break every 5 minutes like Windows. Aside from the occasional printer weirdness, I really haven’t had to do much. Linux just works.

Isn't the OS that North Korea uses technically a version of linux?

[-] PervServer@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 1 year ago

Red Star OS is Linux. v3 was based on Fedora and uses KDE.

The first interplanetary kernel!

[-] unreliable@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago

I don't know if windows is running out of our planet. But I know some Linux are in some satellite thing. So Windows is an earther problem

I pledge allegiance...

  • Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
