When I try to explain this to people, they usually say "Why should we care about other countries? We don't need to pay for their expenses! It's theit fault that they let themselves be exploited, we also didn't have outside help." and I dont know how to respond to that...

At this point you don't really have to because all the countries the west got used to exploiting are now starting to organize with BRICS being a prime example. What you can point out to people is that the ability to exploit other countries isn't going to last forever, and as the exploited continue to shake the empire off then the standard of living in the west continues to collapse.

I feel the same way, but the glamour only has its effect lost on us after certain experiences and ideology reminding us of its ugly side. If we dropped a farmer from 18th c. anywhere in the middle of times Square or Shibuya station, there's no chance they won't be in awe.

A lot of people back then (and now, but back then too) believed in Hell. Before the devil with horns growing from his head overseeing a lot of burning and poking with pitchforks, it's supposed to be separation from God. Give 'em two minutes to adapt and I think they'll agree that it's very, very far from God.

Most of the world is capitalist, and most of the world is poor.

Michael Parenti

They talk about the failure of socialism but where is the success of capitalism in Africa, Asia and Latin America?

This made my heart drop. However marginalized or trod upon I may be, I am still part of the rich. I don't make my living just by owning things, so I got that going for me; but my whole lifestyle sits on the backs of those folks. I knew it was bad, but this picture was just a gut-punch. If these people need to march on us to be liberated, so may it be.

Where I live, you can see s mansion next to a barely standing hovel. It's wild.
