So… in the novel… it IS actually a different planet and obviously the Statue of Liberty is not there.

You likely already know this but the statue in the movie is a convenient symbol for change over time which is relevant to the book. No spoilers.

Anyway… read the novel! It’s great.

I haven't read the book, but that makes this even funnier to me. Lol

Will add that to my list.

Is this a meme or is this merely a statement of fact about a movie along with a photo from that movie

Are WE serious?

A quick googling is too much to ask?

https://planetoftheapes.fandom.com/wiki/Statue_of_Liberty

In 3978, human refugee George Taylor fled from Ape City with his newly acquired mate, Nova. During the course of several days, Taylor believed that he had been living on a strange, alien world. Following the shoreline, he came upon the Statue's ruins and realized that he was on Earth. Worse, he deduced that the humans of his own era must have waged a global war, which paved the way for a dystopian future where humans became subservient to evolved apes.

Just in case you're not joking, that's the point of this meme. That the big reveal and emotional moment at the end of the film has been misunderstood and reduced to a plot hole

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 days ago

Well, joke and internet is hard.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

I can't believe you were serious. That's funny!

[–] moakley@lemmy.world 156 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Did you even watch the movie? They explain it right away!

Someone "blew it up" and the resulting explosion launched it into space.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 days ago

thats dumb as fuck lol

[–] winety@lemmy.zip 83 points 1 week ago (8 children)

I've only watched the musical from the Simpsons.

I hate every ape I see, from chimpan-A to chimpanzee.

No, this is a misunderstanding. This is just an unusual rock formation. It has nothing to do with the actual statue, that still stands on Earth.

It's actually still earth and the protagonist time travelled.

They travelled to the past when only the upper half of the statue was built.

[–] EaterOfLentils@lemmy.world 45 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (11 children)

It was a different statue that looked the same. Just a coincidence. It's not that deep.

That’s the ocean after global warming. They're really in Las Vegas.

No! They did it! They blew it up!

And then the apes blew up their society too. How could this happen?

And then the birds took over and ruined their society.

And then the cows. And then...I don't know, is that a slug, maybe?

Noooo!

[–] And009@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 5 days ago

If you reach the bird people you're too far ahead.

[–] holdstrong@lemm.ee 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Weird how the copper of the slug statue looks older than the other ones. I hope someone got fired for that blunder

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's, like, even more futuristic copper so it colors differently.

[–] rmuk@feddit.uk 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Or maybe version their statue was built with the help of their version of Ea-Nasir.

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago

No matter how many times he's reincarnated, he always has shitty copper and treats his customers with contempt!

[–] Nikelui@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They sold it, to pay for the debts after the stock market crash of 2025.

Everyone forgets that the planet of apes is actually las vegas, if the camera where to go a little more to the left we would see a eiffel tower as well

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 2 points 6 days ago

Yeah, I think it's one of those artsy things they sometimes do to just confuse the viewer. In the book the eiffel tower is mentioned which makes everything more obvious.
