There are a ton of people out there who have absolutely no clue what is currently going on in the government. I mean, 40% can't read above an elementary school level.

Search trends asking if Biden dropped out or why he wasn't candidate skyrocketed right around voting day.

It hurts.

theres also people that purposely avoid political news, and dont even to search it out, because they dont want to argue with people about it, additionally theres also people distracted by other things on youtube, social media following influencers. and then theres the people who "how does this affect me now, or just scoffs as a normal event that will pass".

its these disconnect which have been hammered succesfully by right wing propaganda works in conservative favor.

I have blocked every single community with "politcal" in its name and keyword blocked "musk" and "elon" and "trump" yet I'm still here being served political content even if I try to moderate it away from being 95% of my lemmy feed

Any time I see polls.

So that means another important threshold is coming.

Trump and Musk, being the psychopathic pieces of shit they are, are going to want to treat their growing unpopularity and ever-stronger opposition as some sort of conspiracy rather than an honest expression of popular opinion, and they're going to try to clamp down on it - to start arresting and silencing people for the "crime" of opposing them.

And the question is going to be, will Americans again just roll over and take it as a couple of psychopathic dickweeds with daddy issues systematically destroy everything the US has ever stood for?

Even a year ago I would've said no, but now...

I don't understand why people think Americans are just taking it.

Do you know how many times people protest, how many times people are beat for it? Cop city in the south, Portland, literally most colleges.

People are doing shit and it does matter. Part of the problem is acting like nobody is and making their work seem worthless

The biggest reason some people don't notice or don't think anything is happening is the fact that mainstream networks and algorithms aren't showing people what's going on.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

its exactly it, or the adjacent media, aka social media is downplaying it, or just treating it as a normal protest

[–] WatDabney@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I can't speak for anyone else, but I say that Americans are just taking it because while a few thousand people here and there are protesting the wanton destruction of everything of value in their country by a handful of fucking psychopaths, the other 340-some million are just letting it happen.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 2 points 2 days ago

It's not. if you step back there are consistent protests for BLM, March against the alt right, white supremacist shit gets chased out of Philly and Boston all the time.

It's not cool over it, people are getting pissed. It's just media doesn't benefit telling us.

Push the people to civil unrest. Slap on some martial law. Profit.

The other 40 are in a fucking death cult

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 24 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Shoulda voted, the rest of the world saw this coming.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

'But gaza', mate. Dumbfucks

Yeah. It's not that Republican-lite neoliberalism failed to motivate 100 million American adults to vote... or the neoliberals supporting genocide... it's the anti-genocide folks who are to blame!

The anti-fascists are to blame for fascism!

NOTE: I promoted voting D right up to the election, but I'm not brain damaged enough to blame anyone else but the D's for their failures, especially their support of genocide and continuous capitulation to oligarchy and fascism. If you don't understand this logic then you are not opposing fascism; you are an integral part of fascisms success.

How are the American people are crossing the road with their head down? Seems like everyone else can see the truck coming at full speed.
