A UK-centric Electric Vehicles community, where discussion/news of the wider European continent is welcome.

All discussion of EVs (and hybrids for the moment), charging networks, etc, welcome!

No USA/Americas news unless it is relevant to the UK/Europe - most of the existing EV communities on Lemmy are awash with US discussion, please use one of those. US news and discussion will be removed.

The main "global" EV community is !electricvehicles@slrpnk.net

I love this iconic car design.

I like how the paint isn't monotone but is still tasteful.

Well the new Renault 5 has the obligatory baguette holder, so this had better be able to transport a basket full of eggs over a field.

Renault seems to be doing good with their new lineup. Stellantis on the other hand - not as much. I don't know of a single model of ev of theirs I would want to buy if I were rich enough to buy a new car. I thought maybe fiat grande panda, but it is priced exactly the same as Citroen EC3 and in that segment, it's not appealing to me at all. All of their cars share the platform with an ICE car, which includes the grande panda. They are simply not competing with Renault at this point. I hope 2CV will change that, but who knows when it's even gonna be available.

Renault have an advantage that they've been making EVs for years (as have Nissan). A lot of the other "traditional" car companies either completely shunned EVs or released a token one which was largely not available and they didn't want to sell to you. As such they are a way behind and/or have had to spend extra on R&D to catch up.

I don't know if the 2CV will be any good, but it's going to have to be exceptional to compete with the 5EV - and I'm not convinced that they will manage it
