Looks like K.I.T.T.'s gauge panels...

With a Class 2 Shuttle body.

I always wanted a shuttle. Maybe not class 2

I would be thrilled to drive this, but my partner would get sick of me referring to every trip to the grocery store as an “away mission.”

[-] carbonicnoodle@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

Dress your partner in a red shirt

[-] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 year ago

Never! She’s definitely a gold shirt.

They made the best dashboards in the 80s

[-] KingGordon@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago

You can fit so much beige in this baby.

Alternate Universe where this is the Back to the Future time machine

[-] CodexArcanum@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

Murty! You've got to reach FIFTY FIVE MILES PER HOUR! That will maximize your fuel efficiency, because then you need to cruise for an hour to charge up the flux capacitor and warm up the federation warp coils. I'm going to go convert a Lambo into a time machine or something, I'll meet you back here 1937!

I love retro-futurism. This is peak humanity. Analog controls in a vehicle designed for visiting the stars.

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yeah, I had one of those back in the day.

Tommy racing

That thing is hideous. I want it.

[-] silentknyght@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

I think CDPR upscaled this design for Cyberpunk 2077

[-] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 8 points 1 year ago

Slightly bigger wheels and this would be spot on.

[-] tankplanker@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

It's amazing how much smaller wheels used to be, Ferrari 328s from this era came with 16" rims now even my hatchback comes with 20" as standard and 21s as optional.

I have to be honest and say I greatly prefer the ride of smaller rims.

[-] No1@aussie.zone 4 points 1 year ago

Anything more than 17s costs me thousands in punctures from potholes...

[-] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 1 points 1 year ago

It might even just be the proportion of it, looking at the 328s, they have big arches even with the smaller rims whereas they're quite tight here. Thinking about it, lots of classics look great on minilites with big fat tires too.

It has not one, but two silhouettes of itself on the dashboard. You could almost take the thing into combat with the Klingons.

Actual source is Italdesign, the Italian company that designed this concept car for VW. It was built on the Golf Syncro, which was the first Golf with four wheel drive. Here is a good video explaining Italdesign's automotive history leading up to the Orbit.

Thanks, added to the post!

looks like the sweet love child of an amc pacer and a delorean.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

Look at all that visibility! Sweet! Based on modern car design, I assume this has a terrible crash test rating and no side airbags.

[-] sagrotan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Where have all the cool digital dashboards gone? Had an 80s supra when I was young, still loving it & I wish I haven't sold it. What a crazy futuristic car. In the night on the Autobahn, full throttle, loud music - good ol' times.

[-] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 1 year ago

What do all the gauges on the right side even do?

[-] Zipitydew@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

Think that's all eq and music controls

[-] Xanthrax@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'd kill for that. I hate getting ready to drive on a sunny day, and I can't change the eq because I can't see the stereo interface.

[-] SunStealer@startrek.website 4 points 1 year ago

Now I want an LCARS dashboard

[-] SARGEx117@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

KITT? Is that you in disguise?

[-] ramble81@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Instead we just ended up with the Silhouette minivan

[-] m0darn@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Was this car the inspiration for the simpsons episode where home designed a car? (And ruined his brother's company)

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

I miss when car companies made cool-looking concepts like this that would never roll out of a factory for real.

The absolutely ridiculous Pontiac Stinger belongs here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUq8JtlrJbM

I'll take one please.
