"Sir do you know how fast you were going?"

Apparently, it's doing really well now.

And also they're called "lazy bears" in Ecuador.

[–] BlueMagma@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 hours ago

In french we call them "paresseux" which means "lazy"

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 12 points 17 hours ago

We literally called them lazies.

"Faultier" in german as well, "faul" = lazy and "tier" = animal

[–] espentan@lemmy.world 9 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Same in Norwegian, dovendyr.

Doven = lazy, or more accurately, "action less". Dyr = animal.

Portuguese: bicho preguica

Preguiça: to feel lazy, "bicho": a little less formal way to say animal

Aww. He looks suspiciously calm. Like as soon as the officer puts him somewhere safe he's going to walk back into the danger.

Alright, we'll give you really cool claws, but the trade-off is that you'll move with the speed of darkness.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 13 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Speed of darkness

Isn't that basically exactly the same as the speed of light? 🤨

[–] espentan@lemmy.world 8 points 17 hours ago

Hehe, probably. It's just something I like to say, with the implication being that if the speed of light is fast, then the speed of darkness must be slow. It stands to reason, right?

Here's an article with more details, including pictures with more pixels: https://abc7ny.com/sloth-ecuador-quevedo-oso-perezoso/1172446/

Am I crazy or does that 2-toed sloth have 4 digits on its left hand?

Edit: my leading theory is its back left leg is next to its left foreleg. So we're seeing both finger and toenails.

[–] oxysis@lemm.ee 4 points 20 hours ago

Thesloth has both its left limbs right next to each other. In the first photo you can see both limbs more clearly but you can make out a small gap between them in the second photo too.
