Feels good to be back!
What even happened?
TLDR: There is an issue that is a combination of running out of space on one disk and some personal uncertainty around when docker writes data to which disk, all getting in the way of the postgres db successfully recovering.
This caused an extended downtime of several days, probably the largest we have had since launching the instance. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion that could have caused!
Myself, and the rest of the WhyDRS / admin team have committed to making the Lemmy instance as transparent as we can, but a limiting factor to the transparency is the availability of people to execute on the desired state of backups+publishing.
If you or anyone reading has any experience with this kind of database admin and would like to try to help, please reach out!
